Support for Helpless Women

Women’s empowerment can be defined to promoting women’s sense of self-worth, their ability to determine their own choices, and their right to influence social change for themselves and others. Especially the vulnerable ones, they need support to be able to engage themselves in the business activities that will income that will help theirs and family standard of living better.

Many older women live alone upon spousal bereavement; an arrangement that may impact on their daily routines, ability to self-manage chronic conditions, as well as economic resources. These women often have a decreased income upon spousal death, particularly if they had not been in paid employment for long and have no or little retirement savings. They are more likely to live in poverty than men or their married counterparts, and may suffer from financial and housing insecurity and reduced income despite maintained or increased expenses

These factors mean that older women may be less equipped to address the challenges of widowhood. Poor physical and psychological health outcomes highlight the need for health professionals and services to be aware of and responsive to issues faced by older people who have recently lost a spouse.

Divine Cares International Outreach is aware like everyone that there are no government grants specifically for people who lose a spouse. This is one of the reasons the young and older widows need support in order to sustain themselves and children in this economic hardship. We gave food items and money seed many widows and  widowers in the past and till today. Beyond that, we gave them medical care.

Increased commitments to widows, widowers and women’s empowerment have resulted in progress and improvement of many families livelihood. Divine Cares International Outreach (DCIO) plan to establish sustainable livelihood activities for widows or less privileged women who are struggling to feed their children and fight poverty after the loss of their husbands. These helpless women and widows face a lot of abusive practices. Sometimes, they face degrading and life-threatening activities in to survive.
